“I am a firm believer in disruption. It is the key to growth and evolution, consequently creating some pain and fear, but the trick to success is having a creative and identifiable strategy to either refresh core basics of the past or to create a new core.”
“I/we are not crazy enough to think we have the resources to create a new core for the cigar industry. Instead, we aim to provide different and fresher viewpoints of product engagement options for cigar lovers and aficionados by revisiting, re-engineering, and recreating the basics of a cigar brand which are seemingly overlooked in my opinion.”
Vicente continues “over the past few years, after speaking with many colleagues, aficionados, and connoisseurs, we all believe there is a vacuum within the industry that Vicente Blends can fill and we are excited to do so with the help of our Vicente Aficionados whom continue to expand in numbers every day.
Ultimately, of course, we offer amazing tobacco blends, but we also want to have fun and offer a unique and sophisticated spin to our cigar brand capturing the attention of everyone. Even while knowing other brands may copy our ideas and tactics. I truly believe we’re on to something exciting, but not naïve enough to think there won’t be any naysayers. And those naysayers are a part of the fear and pain I speak of previously.
The fact is, I love cigars and the cigar culture practically saved my life by slowing me down and forcing me to enjoy the small moments alone or with friends, family, and strangers, just bullshitting about cigars and everyday life. Steve Harvey says it right, “Cigars are yoga!’
In full transparency, I will also disclose that I didn’t know much about the details of the industry and this naiveté is power in my view because it permits me to think a bit different than incumbents simply by starting with the basics and evolving. Newcomers to any industry are the true disruptors that push evolution because we are not blinded by continual repetition.
I am a very focused and passionate person, therefore, it is my job to ensure you can feel the passion and understand the vision. I don’t just want to sell cigars by the millions but rather want to first take you on my personal journey and show you how deep I and the Vicente Team have thought into the aspects of what we want Vicente Blends and our cigars to be.
For me, the act of smoking a cigar may be the only thing in my life in which I cannot influence the speed unless the cigar really sucks – LOL. There are no short cuts other than possibly smoking a smaller gauge cigar. So, for 1-2 hours per day, I just sit and truly meditate. This provides time to recover mentally from my day and helps to spawn creativity.
Now, think about how and why you love cigars. Think about the visuals and senses that captured your attention when you were a cigar virgin, as your knowledge grew, and even now today as you experience my vision.
What are the simple aspects of your cigar ritual that maybe overlooked because of the culture we live in? Do the cigar labels, boxes, brand names, cigar names, and vision of the brand mean anything to you?
I truly believe that all aspects of a brand; the name, the cigar bands (we call rings), the cigar line names, the cigar boxes (we call vaults), the tobacco blends, and the community engagement should all be intertwined and staged, similar to chapters of a story.
After all, it is the story of the cigar and the brand that always captures the immediate attention of newcomers. And the fine quality and sustainability of the product that’s keeps everyone coming back for more.
