What’s In A Name?
(Everything!)

Have you ever wondered how cigar brands determine the names of their cigar lines, the actual cigar names themselves or even if the tobacco blend is symbolized within the chosen names? At present, it seems some of the names may be too complicated to pronounce or even the creative names seem to be disjointed from the tobacco blends.

As a test, if you go to your humidor or local cigar lounge, pick the first cigar that you focus on and ask yourself, ‘what interconnectivity does the name and tobacco have with that specific cigar you chose?’

If at a lounge, then ask the employee working at the lounge if the blend of that cigar has any symbolism to its name. I am certain no one truly has the knowledge of why cigar brands do what they do, but this method of operation changes within Vicente Blends. At Vicente Blends, every detail actually interconnects our brand with the names we choose and will always provide symbolism.

Over the years, I can’t count the times when I said, “Weird name for a cigar,“ or “How the hell do you pronounce this“ or “What does that name mean?“

And statistically speaking, doesn’t it seem that the majority of cigar names are of Spanish influence?

Don’t get me wrong, the majority of tobacco in the world is grown within Spanish speaking nations, but here at Vicente, as you can see, we take a different approach to every aspect of our brand. Yes, something even as simple as the names. When was it when we all forget that simplicity was power?

Why Vicente Blends?

Conceptually, we wanted to create a simple and unique name that’s free-flowing and easy to remember. Vicente, originating from the Spanish translation of our founder’s name – Vincent McGlone – who has been living in the Dominican Republic since 2010 and loving the local cigar culture.

In reality, after many brainstorming, cigar smoking, and blending sessions over months and months, our team chose Vicente because the name is easy to remember and linguistically flows very well in any language. In addition, it is an actual name – a first name and not a surname – which is a bit uncharacteristic within the cigar industry filled with so many last name brands.

Continuing, after more cigar smoking sessions, adding bourbon cocktails, the team jokingly and purposefully started mocking the Vicente name. Then, the team realized Vicente alone just seemed more like a fashion house name.

So, we tried to think about verbs and nouns within the cigar industry we might be able to use as Vicente’s surname which would be simple, identifiable, and ‘catchy’. But getting back to the Vicente being a potential fashion house name, we all realized Vicente would be perfect for our classy and ultra-luxury life style brand.

Then someone blurted out “Blends!” Our team looked at each other; we liked it, and we tentatively decided to call our cigar brand Vicente Blends. The name works because of its symbolism as blending the products Vicente is crafting for ourselves and you. Hence, Vicente Blends!
